The excavation is focused around the early Anglo-Saxon cemetery of Oakington, Cambridgeshire and incorporates both research and commercial aspects. The University of Central Lancashire's involvement at Oakington has concentrated in a five year training and research excavation, which is due for completion in 2014.
The project maintains a successful community aspect headed by Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) that provides site tours, school visits and volunteering places throughout the digging season, enabling the public to interact with the archaeology on many different levels. MMU also undertakes work within post-excavation in the form of conservation of artefacts by conservator Alison Draper.
